Made with oil painted cement, mosaic glass, and cedar driftwood over a steel frame, Ilana is a beautiful wood nymph.The glittering greens of her mosaic glass and painted skin suggest leaves, and her cedar hips bear the naturally patterned ridges and fissures of the forest. The embryonic stone cradled in her belly represents life, and her arm curls gently around the curve of her stomach to protect it. Ilana’s textured skin is both sculpture and canvas. The cement is thirsty, drinking in the rich color and bringing her sculpted musculature to life.
